Push through the doubt

As a painter you make work that you doubt. If you are asking questions about the direction your painting is going, then you are being a true artist. Art has thought and strong decision making involved, often times people are under the impression that it is a gift. But if its such a gift why don't people pursue art as a career more? Anyways I digress. Yes, there are gifts and aptitude toward visual arts. But what a true artist almost always wonders if their direction is correct. I doubt every mark I make, because every mark is a decision and you don't want the culmination of those decisions to be a failure or loss. It's kind of like a metaphor for life.

Currently with this painting I'm considering the "what if's". What if I put stripes as the background and then go over the stripes with a neutral color but leaving remnants of the stripes to show through. What if I paint repeating blow pops in the background? What if I paint repeating gummy bears in the background? I'm surrounded by serious decisions that I need to decide and pursue. Otherwise I'm left with an unfinished painting.
