Week 15 in Pierson Land

Hello Art Believers!!!

To summarize my week, it was good,  I did these really terrible Butterfree drawings, a character or creature from Poke'mon. The design is very simplistic. so simple in fact that I found myself using sketchbook pros smooth line feature to try and get a very clean curvilinear line with no imperfections. So for the majority of my thirty minute sketch time I found myself drawing the same line over and over again.  Hence why the drawings are so unfinished I am quite embarrassed to even show them.

On another note I finished the series "The Office" and began watching "The Santa Clarita Diet". You are probably wondering why it took me so long to finish watching "The Office" and I don't have a good answer so *shrugs*.  "The Santa Clarita Diet" is interesting, but I would like to add a side note,  I can stomach zombies that look like zombies eating prop legs and arms.  But when it comes to a regular person eating prop legs and arms, I find my stomach churning.  There is something about a person who does not look like a zombie eating fake limbs  and organs that really makes my stomach  twist and turn (even when it is not real).  I would watch "The Walking Dead" eat a hamburger while zombies eat another human being "no problem",  but the moment that "zombie" starts talking and acting like a normal human being the narrative starts to feel less like the character is a zombie and more like they are a cannibal.

Not much else was done this week,  I got a few neat drawings I need to spray fix before I can put them up on my blog.  They should be in my Week 16 blog posting.  I had to pick up some work from the faculty show and because it was Easter I was not able to work on much of anything.

Thank you for taking the time for view my blog, please follow my blog as well as my other social media feeds (see below).

Matt

Week 14 in Pierson Land

Hello Art Believers!!!

This weeks brings nothing new to the plate, although I am hoping to change that soon.  I recently sent a piece to Japan, and with that included certain materials for shipping. The material was flat cardboard boxing material, the problem is they take an incredible amount of space. I was able to store them in the house for a little while eventually they were moved down stair in my studio. which was already limited in space as well.  My bigger issue is space, so the more I produce the more I have to store work.  Since my paintings aren't a high demand item, they tend to become glorified items that I move around in my studio.  So I am constantly redressing space issues, this time its storing large sheets of cardboard. 😠😣

Now my studio is almost back to a functional state, I can begin production once again.  Its worth mentioning that every one of these post encompasses at least 7 hours of drawing, no matter how bad they are.  Which is why I find it hard to believe when people complain they don't have time to draw.  I shall leave it at that, I don't want my blog to become a pedestal for me to rant on.

My digital work hasn't gotten better as a matter of fact I think they have kind of stagnated.  I am have a bit of trouble how they establish clean lines while still appearing loose. So I have been messing around with features more. Which is probably why I have been unable to complete any decent drawings.  I have also increased the under drawing time to the point where it leaves me backtracking too much.

The month of April I will be drawing 3/4th view self-portraits. Enjoy week 14 of Pierson-Land.

Week 13 in Pierson Land

Hello Art Believers!!!

As usual my weekly blog contains 7self portraits and 7 digital drawings.  For the most part I have been keeping a low profile when it comes to work.  This weeks digital work are of Caterpie, another Poke'mon character. I think I might try draw the first 150 by that time I might be half way decent at digital work. I can say I did an absolute awful job drawing Caterpie, since I try to only spend 30 minutes a day on these digital works I failed to really dial in these drawings.  Another part that was difficult I was finding the cartoon too be so simple that I was making the image more difficult than necessary. On Saturday I tried approaching the drawing of Caterpie differently, with results that were less to be desired. Overall I think this batch of drawings to be particularly sloppy.

The reason I show everyone these terrible drawings is because of drawing transparency. I think people misjudge how many pieces people work on before they get moderately good at something.  these digital drawings are case in point.  I have made thousands of bad drawings, but I don't hide them, I show them with a sense of pride.  Probably because you may argue on the merits of the drawing but you can't argue the efforts and time put into these drawings.  I have read articles about Instagram and how the people on there deceive their followers by posting the "perfect" photo of themselves.  I am the opposite showing you the failures and progress.  I am not hiding my deficiency as an artist.  I am to some degree ashamed of my drawings. I don't like taking credit of bad drawings I have done.  But as an artist I have to own up to my work and improve from it.  It's marathon not a sprint.  Thank you and please enjoy this weeks addition to my blog.
